Got Crabs?

We do!  Not the yucky kind though. : ) We got our crabby friends during Spring Break.
They made it through security and survived the plane ride home.  The boys named them Snapper and Pincher.  The coolest part was picking out shells for them to eventually move to.  They had cool painted shells, everything from flower designs, to camouflage, to Superman, and Nemo.  We have never had a family pet, so here is our first.  I know some might not consider these little creatures pets.  But, since we have to feed and water them on a daily basis, I do!  See, we have to ease ourselves into the responsibilities of the pet world.  We don't have to walk them, pet them, visit the vet, and they require little if any attention (hence the name hermit crabs).  I think Jason and I have gotten more interested in them than the boys.  I searched how to care for hermit crabs and you would be surprised on the info and websites out there on these little guys (http://hermit-crabs.com/index.html).  It's like a hermit crab community! I have to admit they do freak me out a little. We hope for a normal lifespan for our little friends, but we know this could be a short lived pet.  Well that's it in a crab shell!
Snapper tucked in his shell.  They are noctornal, so they are active during the night.
The Crab Shack-notice the bungee I made Jason add to ensure no crab escapes!
