On Monday our Maddy will be 5 years old! He has been counting down to his birthday since his Dad's birthday in January. Maddy is SO excited to turn five because of all the firsts he will get to experience, such as going to Mommy's & Jaxson's school, getting a real backpack, possibly losing a tooth (the dentist told him this year he would probably lose one), and going to the big library and playground at school. Hopefully, no more firsts that involve stitches or the ER! It just so happens most of the other little brothers around him got to start school this year. So, he is really chomping at the bit to join them.
Lately, he has been asking a lot of questions too. "What grade will Jaxson be in when I start school?" "How old will I be when Daddy turns 83?" More than once he has asked us, "When I get older how will I find my way home?" He has asked this a few times lately, so this has obviously been bothering him. "You will always, always know your way home Maddy." "Mommy will always make sure." I reassure him. But, he tells me, "But you and Daddy always make sure I get home." It is so sweet that his little worry is about finding his way home. I hope he always remembers his way home and keeps home in his heart too, especially when the day comes that he leaves.
However, this milestone, like all the others is bitter sweet. These past few days leading up to his big day has left me with a heavy heart. He is my baby. He might not be a baby in diapers, but he is our baby of the house. I have spent the last week and a half working on his birthday video looking back at his year of being four. I can't edit it without getting teary eyed. The sweet songs that play don't help either. ; ) Maddy is such a blessing in my life. He challenges me everyday, makes me smile everyday, and makes me a little crazy everyday too. But I'm so completely in love with him....since the first day, five years ago when I laid my eyes on him.
